For the Review

The Roxborough Memorial Hospital, in partnership with the Police District Advisory Council, recently held a Health and Wellness Fair outside 5th District headquarters. PDAC President John Teague and Community Relations Officer Damian Caggiano were among the many officers and firefighters greeting attendees as they strolled along Cinnaminson St. (which was closed for the event). Organizers were extremely grateful to a a fair weather window to hold the event given the fac that our area got hammered by a passing storm later that afternoon.

Several tables were set up to disseminate information across the spectrum of healthy choice options. The fine folks from the RMH were offering free blood pressure readings and blood glucose screenings for those brave enough to endure a pin prick on their pinkie. Is my blood sugar really that high?

The youngest tots had the opportunity to carom around a moon bounce or chase down bubbles from a bubble-making machine. For those who brought their appetites, a complimentary snack table offered hot dogs, chips and bottled beverages was a huge draw. DJ Maxx Jams not only played his repertoire of festive tunes but also played carnival barker as he drew the attention of passing motorists from his perch on the corner.

Aside from the obvious benefits of coming away with some newfound info on the personal health front, attendees got the extra bonus in seeing those who are entrusted with the well being and safety of our community in a relaxed and congenial atmosphere. The PDAC has several more meet & greet affairs planned in the months ahead, including Summer Sizzler Youth BBQ’s on June 11 at Kendrick and June 17 at Houston Playground.
